Circus Elephants Reunite With Each Other After 20 Years

After more than two decades apart, two elephants were reunited in one of the most emotional moments in the animal kingdom. People may think animals are vastly different, but scenes like this serve to demonstrate just how much in common they have with us and how much we have in common with them.
In spite of the fact that Shirley and Jenny had not seen each other in 22 years, the two kind souls instantly recognized each other when they finally met.

After so many years apart, the way they greeted each other brought everyone to tears and showed that the love they had for each other had not faded. Even though they had been apart for two decades, the two elephants were able to savor every moment of their reunion. These two gentle giants had a difficult past, which we only see in the touching reunion scene. They have been forced to perform tricks in circuses for more than 20 years for the sole purpose of entertaining the paying audience. In the end, though, they were saved by a group of caring individuals.

Shirley and Jenny were adopted by the Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee after being rescued from a life in the circus. Here they are reunited in an emotional sense! When the two old friends finally met again after all these years apart, even the keepers were taken aback by how quickly they recognized each other. Nonetheless, the scene that unfolded as they entered an open field is one of the most beautiful I’ve ever seen.

The Sanctuary’s Executive Director Carol Buckley described the beautiful moment as “Shirley started to ROAR and I mean ROAR—Jenny joined in immediately.” They tried to get in together and touched each other frantically through the bars, which made for an interesting interaction, to say the least. “I’ve never felt anything quite like this before.”
